Tobacco Sales in Pharmacies
A pharmacy is usually a place where people go to get prescriptions filled, medical supplies, or other items to help them feel better. Isn’t it ironic that the same place also sells tobacco products that can harm your health and are responsible for one in five Canadian deaths?
On January 15, 2009, Physicians for a Smoke-Free Canada filed a complaint against pharmacists in Manitoba, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan claiming that it is unethical for a pharmacy to sell tobacco products that are harmful to the health of its patrons. Government and pharmaceutical organizations in these provinces have not responded.
What you can do
- Contact your government representative regarding the sale of tobacco products in pharmacies.
- Pharmacies – Prohibit the sale of tobacco products in your store.
