What We Do

Collaborate with our partners

At the forefront of our mission to combat the harmful effects of tobacco, vaping, and nicotine in Manitoba is our active collaboration with a diverse network of organizations and individuals, collectively referred to as The Alliance.

This partnership includes the Lung Association, Canadian Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke, and numerous other health, education, and community organizations.

Together, we actively advocate for broader and more effective policies, develop and deliver cessation programs, and educate youth and young adults about the health hazards associated with smoking and vaping.

Our Alliance serves as a powerful platform, amplifying our collective voices and strengthening our impact in the ongoing fight against tobacco, vaping, and nicotine use in Manitoba and beyond.

Advocate for effective policy

We hold our government accountable for developing measures that keep pace with the ever-evolving tobacco industry.

We're actively pushing for the establishment of a Provincial Tobacco Strategy, recognizing the need for Manitoba to align with other provinces in this crucial area.

Through our advocacy, we strive to enact policies that not only address current challenges but also lay a foundation for a healthier, tobacco-free future for Manitobans.

Currently, we’re focused on several key policy initiatives, including:

  • Restricting vaping flavors to tobacco-only options

  • Raising the legal age to purchase tobacco and nicotine products to 21

  • Implementing commercial tobacco taxes and licensing fees

  • Introducing a social responsibility fee for tobacco retailers

Educate Manitobans

Our commitment to educating Manitobans about tobacco and vaping issues is multi-faceted.

  • We engage with various groups through presentations, reaching out to school boards and medical faculties to raise awareness about the health risks associated with these products.

  • We communicate with elected officials to ensure they are well informed about the concerns affecting their constituents.

  • We offer insights to the media as a trusted authority in the field, providing balanced perspectives on tobacco and vaping-related stories.

  • Our presence on social media platforms serves as a vital channel for disseminating information. In addition to our years-long Facebook Live roundtable discussions with health experts in a variety of fields, we regularly highlight emerging policy recommendations, drive participation in public consultations, and provide educational resources.

  • Visitors to our website can find quit resources tailored to Manitobans, and those who want to be the first to be in the know on developments and resources in the fight against tobacco and vaping can sign up for our e-newsletter.
